SANA'A, Sep.06 (Saba) - Office of the Attorney General received on Sunday file of the corruption case submitted by the Supreme National Committee for Combating Corruption (SNACC) related to decisions of the General Investment Authority to grant the two GSM companies working in Yemen, SabaFon and MTN, further two years of exemption from taxes.

It is scheduled that the Attorney General Abdullah Al-Olufy will study the case in the few coming days in preparation to be handed over to the concerned prosecution to investigate the case.

In a press release issued last Wednesday, the SNACC made clear that the two companies were granted exemption illegally which would lead to depriving the public treasury form big amounts of revenues worth millions of dollars.

The SNACC considered this exemption a corruption crime according to article 7/30 of Anti Corruption Law No. 39/2006 and article No. 90 of Income Taxes Law No. 12/1999.

The taken investigations revealed the two companies got decisions to extend the period of implementing the mobile service draft for more seven years the thing which gave them additional exemption from taxes.

The authority declared that the two companies by these decisions managed to enter equipments and fixed asset without customs duties with more than five times value of the fixed asset including in the licensing decisions for both projects.
